Toronto Fashion Academy recently conducted a fashion show of the A/W’14 collection of the designer Dimple Monga’s brand Kala titled “Kala: Wearable Art.” Kala is a Sanskrit word which means performing arts and Dimple’s show did just that. The show featured accessories and dresses that were artistic pieces on their own and they stood out for the sheer fact that they were beautiful, innovative and eye catching. Along with that, the fabric used to create all of her pieces was the best available, like cashmere, silk, sheep wool. You should also keep in mind that the all the pieces were hand made in India.
The collection featured a use of
embellishment and sequin, that was done in a minimalist and modern fashion. The
scarves featured Swarovski crystals and the age old Indian technique of Danka.
This is a very testament to the fact that Kala is true
to their origins and the name that they are. My favorite piece from the whole collection has to be the embellished clutch which was made up of amazing stones; showing that it really is wearable art. The lace work done on some of the pieces was very chic and showed the craftsmanship and the creativity of the team behind Kala. The collection was cohesive and all the
pieces were beautifully crafted. And the styling of the show was itself minimal,
complimenting the collection. From a
night out to the club, to a brunch out with family, the collection featured
pieces that can be worn whenever and wherever, while giving you the edge of
feeling special and sophisticated.to their origins and the name that they are.
