Pehchaan (Interview)

Inspirations?
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Junoon
Tell us a bit about yourself?
We are merely a group of friends where each friend holds a unique talent within itself. We are all from Ryerson University.
How long have you all known each other? How did you meet?
We all have known each other for about an year and we came together one by one through PSA musical events and parties.
If you guys were to describe yourself in simple word choice. What would you say?
Each band member of Pehchaan is a finger individually and together we become a fist. A fist of multiple talents, that holds the strength and capability of winning people’s heart.
You guys have got the name pehchan but what do you guys think that how far are you guys from making your own phechan?
We will be releasing our own single any time soon so we are not too far from it.
Who are your idols and why?
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Junoon the band are our idols because they both are well known for presenting a perfect blend Sufism, classical and rock music which is what we as Pehchaan admire and follow.
All of you are unviersty students, how do you manage to study and jam at the same time?
Just like every other group of friends, we also spare some time from our busy lives hanging out and socializing together. However, our hangout spot is a jamming studio. It is the passion of music in each one of us which makes it possible.

What's your most embarrassing/funniest experience?
The funniest experience was when we ran out of jamming time in the studio and ended up practicing in a parking lot of Tim Hortons. It was funny and embarrassing because random people around us were stopping by and enjoying our performance.
You guys are based in Canada so how hard is it or how often do you guys get a show to perform in?
We don’t find it difficult to get shows in Canada, but we only accept the opportunities related to these events that fall within our capabilities of time management.
You guys recently performed at Umeed and won the battle of the bands competition what was your aim before hand and by looking at the performers who went before you did they set a hard target for all of you?
Every band in that event was outstanding and they all did indeed give us a challenge before our performance. Our aim was to entertain the audience to best of our abilities and present something unique and better than everyone else. We deeply analyzed the audience and the type of event it was going to be upon which we then based our songs and won the hearts.
How was your expirience perfroming at Umeed and out of 10 how much would you rate the whole sound setup, crowd and other things musicians look for?
We had an extremely joyful experience while performing at Umeed and this event left us with everlasting memories. The start of a musical journey of Pehchaan could not have been any better than this. The crowd was amazing and sound setup was outstanding as usual. We would rate this event as a 9/10. UTM is clearly our favourite place to perform!

Which famous musicians do you admire?
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Junoon
You guys haven't released any original song yet, any surprises for you fans?
We will be releasing our original song soon, we will put in all our efforts to make sure our fans and followers are excessively entertained with our work.
How do you handle mistakes during a performance?
We stay calm and try our best to stay coordinated as a band. Make eye contact with other band each other where necessary.
How often and for how long do you guys practice/jam?We normally practice for about two hours in every two weeks.
Where have you performed? What are your favorite and least favorite venues? Do you have any upcoming shows?
We loved performing in UTM, as their crowds are always energetic and responding, what else a band wants.
Which songs do you perform most frequently? Do you ever play any covers? Do you have a set play list?
We have been perfoming our signature song Billo a lot, by Abrar ul Haq.
What advice do you have for people who want to form their own bands and survive in the music industry of Canada?
Never lose hope, keep practising and keep patience. Always improvise live performances.
What are your hopes for the near future?
We are positive, and We hope we will continue to make Pehchaan.
Any message for your fans?
Stay tuned because we have a lot more coming up for you guys.
